The Board
The Adaptation Fund Board supervises and manages the Adaptation Fund under the authority and guidance of the countries that are party to the Kyoto Protocol. The Board is composed of 16 members and 16 alternates: two representatives from each of the United Nations regional groupings; one representative of the small island developing states; one representative of the least developed country parties; two other representatives from Annex I parties; and two other representatives from non-Annex I parties. The board is also divided into two committees (see below).
Members and alternates serve for a term of two calendar years and are eligible to serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. The Board elects its chair and vice-chair from among its members, with one being from an Annex I party and the other being from a non-Annex I party. The term of office for the chair and vice-chair is one calendar year. The offices of chair and vice-chair alternate annually between a member from an Annex I party and a member from a non-Annex I party. The Board was established in 2007.
