Implementing Entities are the national legal entities and multilateral organizations accredited by the Board. In order to get accreditation, those entities shall meet the fiduciary standards adopted by the Board to access funding to implement concrete adaptation projects and programmes supported by the Fund.

Eligible Kyoto Protocol Parties must use either a national implementing entity (NIE) or a multilateral implementing entity (MIE) to access funding from the Adaptation Fund.
- National Implementing Entities (NIE) are the national legal entities that have been identified by the Board as meeting the fiduciary standards adopted by the Board and accredited as NIE.
- Multilateral Implementing Entities (MIE) are the multilateral organizations and regional development banks that have been identified by the Board as meeting the fiduciary standards adopted by the Board and accredited as MIE.
