Photo Contest Winners Announced

On November 30, 2011 the Adaptation Fund annouced the winners of its 2011 Photo Contest. Congratulations to Md. Mahbubur Rahman of Bangladesh for his striking photo, which placed first. Photos from Mexico,  India, and Madagascar were also selected for the second and third place.

Adaptation Fund Board Approves Second Direct Access Project, Accredits Three Implementing Entities

Durban, South Africa, December 15, 2011 – The number of National Implementing Entities (NIEs) eligible for direct access to the Adaptation Fund rose to eight following the Adaptation Fund Board’s 16th meeting, held December 12-14, 2011 in Durban, South Africa. At the meeting, the Board accredited the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC) of Jordan and Ministry of Natural Resources (MINIRENA) of Rwanda as NIEs. These accreditation decisions bring the count of NIEs to eight, including is the first for the Middle East and fourth for the African region. In addition, the Board also accredited the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a Multilateral Implementing Entity (MIE), making the entity the Board’s tenth MIE.

Adaptation Fund Board Approves Project for Financing and Accredits Two Implementing Entities

Bonn, September 16, 2011 – The Adaptation Fund Board accredited PACT from Belize as new NIE and the African Development Bank as the 9th MIE. Additionally the Board approved an adaptation project in the African island nation of Mauritius with a total value of US$ 9.12 million.

Bonn, Germany, September 16, 2011 – The Adaptation Fund Board reaffirmed its commitment to the operationalization of the direct access finance modality with the accreditation of the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) of Belize as a National Implementing Entity (NIE). This accreditation decision brings the count of NIEs to six, and is the first for Central America. In addition, the Board also accredited the African Development Bank as a Multilateral Implementing Entity (MIE), making the entity the Board’s ninth MIE.

SANBI, created in 2004, works closely with national climate change policy makers, and has led national initiatives relating to climate change adaptation. SANBI also works with a wide range of climate change adaptation groups internationally, and with many universities and research institutions around the world.

First Regional Implementing Entity Accredited at the AFB's 14th Meeting

Bonn, June 22, 2011 - The Adaptation Fund Board has decided to accredit the National Environment Fund (FNE) of Benin as the fourth National Implementing Entity and the West African Development Bank (BOAD) as the first Regional Implementing Entity, hence reinforcing the direct access modality it is promoting. The Board has also approved grant funding for concrete climate change adaptation projects from three Asian developing countries, with total value of US$ 17.4 Million.
