Ex post: Increased Resilience to Climate Change in Northern Ghana through the Management of Water Resources and Diversification of Livelihoods

In southern coastal areas of Artemisa Province and Mayabeque Province, communities are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, including coastal flooding, erosion, and saltwater intrusion driven by sea-level rise and storm surges. This ex post evaluation assesses how project outcomes have evolved several years after completion, with a focus on whether ecosystem-based adaptation measures—such as mangrove restoration—have delivered sustained resilience benefits over time.

This $USD 6.1 million Adaptation Fund-supported project focused on reducing coastal vulnerability through the restoration and sustainable management of mangrove and coastal ecosystems, alongside strengthening community participation and institutional capacity. The project was implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in partnership with the Government of Cuba, with national execution led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) and the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI).
