Episode 5: Direct Access
Guests: Ms. Aïssatou B. Sall Sylla (Aissata Sall), Head of the Climate Finance Unit, CSE
Host: Mr. Matt Pueschel, AF Communications Officer

At the heart of the Fund is its pioneering Direct Access modality, which empowers country ownership in adaptation by accrediting national entities based in the countries themselves to directly develop and implement projects and access finance directly from the Fund rather than going through outside multilateral organizations.

Ms. Aïssatou B. Sall Sylla, Head of the Climate Finance Unit of CSE

The Fund’s very first accredited Direct Access national implementing entity, the Centre de Suivi Ecologique in Senegal, which was accredited more than a decade ago and has been a leader in Direct Access for the Fund, implementing a highly successful and award-winning coastal management project that responded to rising seas and saved lives and livelihoods through the construction of sea walls, wave deflection berms, as well as restoration of canals, fishing docks, sustainable cooking practices and agricultural fields. Ms. Aïssatou B. Sall Sylla, Head of the Climate Finance Unit of CSE discusses the country’s project experience under the Fund’s Direct Access modality and how the success of the project led to subsequent scaling up opportunities.
