The Adaptation Fund presents country experiences in executing agricultural adaptation projects in developing countries. Implementing entities will share country experiences of adaptation projects featuring the theme of family, community and sustainable agriculture from across the globe. Presenters from the Adaptation Fund’s pioneering Direct Access modality, as well as other implementing entities, NGOs and Adaptation Fund staff will share success stories and trends.

Speakers

Mr. Naresh Sharma, Chair of the Adaptation Fund BoardNaresh Sharma_web

Sharma obtained a Master’s in Environmental Science in New Delhi before joining Nepal’s government service in 1997 where he continues to work today. He has worked for the Ministries of Agriculture Development and Population and Environment as an agricultural market expert, agricultural officer, planning and monitoring officer and currently as Climate Finance Management Chief institutionalizing environment and climate change activities.

 

Marcia Levaggi, Director General of Environmental Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina

CPrior to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina in October 2016, Levaggi served as Manager of the Adaptation Fund Board secretariat for seven years. Levaggi holds a Master of Law equivalent from University of Buenos Aires, has been honored with the Outstanding Contributors Award by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) on the 20th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol, and is a recipient of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Montreal Protocol Award.

 

Walter Oyhantçabal, Director of Climate Change Unit in the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay

Walter OyhantcabalOyhantçabal is the Director of the Climate Change and Sustainability Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uruguay, where he leads a team that addresses adaptation and mitigation challenges in the agricultural and LULUCF sectors. He is the Coordinator of the Knowledge Management component of the Adaptation Fund project in Uruguay. Oyhantçabal represents Uruguay in the Council of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and he is a member of the roster of experts of UNFCCC for the review of GHG Inventories since 2004. He was the lead author of IPCC AR4 and is currently a member of the IPCC Bureau representing South America.

Andaloussi started her professional career in December 2010 as a Project Manager for the Agency for Agricultural Development after obtaining a degree in Agro-economic engineering from the Agronomy and Veterinary Institute Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco. After working in the ADA’s Department of Project Management for a few years, she was moved to the Project Management Directorate where she monitored and managed climate change issues in Morocco.

 

Dr. Pradeep Kurukulasuriya, Head of Climate Change Adaptation program, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)Pradeep Kurukulasuriya_web

An environmental economist by training, Kurukulasuriya holds a PhD from Yale University, MPhil from Cambridge University (UK) and a BA/MA (Hons) from Aberdeen University (UK). He currently leads on UNDP’s assistance programs to more than 120 countries around the world including the Adaptation Fund, Least Developed Country Fund, Special Climate Change Fund, and Green Climate Fund. Pradeep has previously worked with the World Bank and Munasinghe Institute of Development, a Non-Governmental Organization in Sri Lanka.

 

Emmanuel Seck, Programme Manager and Environmentalist at Energy Environment Development (ENDA)Emmanuel Seck_web

Seck has considerable experience in networking and managing projects. As an informational Sciences graduate from Dakar University (UCAD), he has experience leading environment energy and development programmes at national and international levels in the UNFCCC and the Convention to Combat Desertification. Seck also serves as a coordinator for the African CSO coalition on Sustainable Land Management, and a member of the Adaptation Fund’s NGO network.
