This event will explore key findings from the State of Climate Services report, focusing on advancing climate services to address emerging climate challenges. High-level participants will highlight how effective climate services can drive better investments and enhance adaptation outcomes at the national level.

The Climate Action Window (CAW) represents Africa’s largest pipeline of adaptation projects, strategically designed to tackle the continent’s unique climate challenges. The event aims to mobilize contributions to close the adaptation finance gap, while promoting coordination and reducing fragmentation in climate finance efforts across Africa.

This session will raise global awareness of the severe impacts of climate change on mountain ecosystems, which are vital sources of water, food, and biodiversity. By connecting mountain and marine ecosystems, Nepal aims to foster solidarity between mountain and coastal communities to address the loss and damage caused by climate change.

This event will highlight lessons learned from the AF’s projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, showcasing new funding windows and operational approaches under its second Medium Term Strategy. The goal is to raise awareness of innovative adaptation solutions and strengthen the capacity of national implementing entities. Experts will share experiences and lessons from various adaptation funding windows.

This high-level session will spotlight the critical role of community-driven climate adaptation in the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions, from Africa to SIDS, and demonstrate how local action can drive meaningful change. The event will also celebrate innovative solutions through the 2024 Local Adaptation Champion Awards, showcasing outstanding examples of local adaptation efforts in areas such as food security, water security, and urban resilience.

The session will explore LDC-led progress through LIFE-AR, highlighting achievements and challenges in locally-driven adaptation efforts. Stakeholders will discuss the importance of inclusive governance, gender equity, and social inclusion in advancing climate resilience.

The session will highlight how locally led adaptation initiatives can be effectively financed and scaled through comprehensive support, combining funding, technical assistance, business development, and knowledge exchange. By drawing on experiences from grassroots innovators, funders and partners, the session will advocate for investing in community-driven solutions and fostering partnerships to drive systemic change in climate resilience efforts.

As the challenges of accessing climate finance continue to grow, country platforms have emerged as a vital solution for developing countries. These platforms aim to streamline the often fragmented climate financial architecture, making resources more accessible for impactful climate initiatives.

We have unique mandates that position them to enhance cooperation among stakeholders in climate finance.

This session, aims to showcase the collective efforts of the Multilateral Climate Funds in addressing climate finance challenges, highlight the role of collaboration between the MCF system in strengthening the climate finance ecosystem and enabling countries to achieve their climate goals.

In this session, multilateral climate funds will outline their strategies to partner with Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Indigenous and local community leaders will then share their experiences with direct climate finance. They will lay out their vision for innovative ways to mobilize new sources of financing for nature, scale up successful climate action, and empower local leaders.

The event will focus on capacity development, stakeholder engagement, and prioritizing investments to turn climate goals into actionable outcomes.

The Government of the Azerbaijan as the incoming COP29 Presidency will host this year’s Contributor Dialogue at COP29 Finance Day in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This high-level event will provide an opportunity for contributor governments to express their support and announce new pledges towards the AF Board’s 2024 resource mobilization target of US$ 300 million from a higher number of contributors.

New contributions to the Adaptation Fund directly support project proposals in its pipeline worth US$ 460 millions and support efforts to double global levels of adaptation finance by 2025.

This event will showcase lessons learned and challenges faced by the Adaptation Fund (AF) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) in implementing adaptation projects in fragile and conflict-affected settings. This joint event, hosted by the Adaptation Fund Board Secretariat and AF-TERG, will explore lessons from the Adaptation Fund Readiness Programme in the Pacific, including initial evaluation findings and opportunities for improvement in its new design. A panel of experts will discuss how the readiness programme can better address the needs of Pacific countries, followed by a Q&A session and a summary of key takeaways.
